How do I apply for a medical marijuana card in VA?

In applying for a medical marijuana card, one must provide the following: full name, date of birth, address, telephone number, and email address if any, a valid ID, and at least 18 years of age, else you will need to provide consent from a parent or guardian. And a statement that indicates your age and residency. Book your appointment with a doctor first to review your ailments and medical condition. 

Do I have to live in Virginia to become a medical marijuana patient in Virginia?

Yes.  You must show proof of Virginia residency.  A valid VA Drivers License, ID, Voter Registration Card, Power Bill, or copy of a lease is required to prove residency.  

What conditions qualify me for medical cannabis?

 Any diagnosed condition or disease determined by the physician to benefit from such use will qualify you for medical cannabis. 

Do I need medical records to get my card in Virginia?

 If you have medical records, be sure to provide them. If not, the evaluating provider will establish them with you. 

Where are the dispensaries in VA? Is there a dispensary near me?

Dispensaries in Virginia are opening soon! The following dispensaries have been approved to open: 

1. Columbia Care - Portsmouth, VA

2. Green Leaf - Richmond, VA

3. Dalitso - Manassas, VA

4. PharmaCann - Stauton, VA

5. Dharma Pharmaceuticals - Bristol, VA

Also, once the first one opens, Washington, DC dispensaries should be offering reciprocity to VA residents. 


Virginia's five medical marijuana dispensaries - referred to as "pharmaceutical processors" - are anticipated to become operational in the winter of 2019, with a deadline of December 31, 2019. The Virginia Board of Pharmacy has established 5 zones that will each have one pharmaceutical processors operating in so that patients across Virginia have access to medical cannabis.


The dispensaries will have products including capsules, sprays, tinctures, oils, creams, gels, lozenges, patches, troches, suppositories, and lollipops; the products must contain at least 5 mg of CBD or at least 5 mg of THCA per dose and cannot contain more than 10 mg THC per dose, or single unit.

What is the Cost?

 The cost is $199 and that covers your medical evaluation, your consultation with a licensed VA practitioner registered with the state, and an authorized certification for medical marijuana purchases.
